Somewhere to Be
Somewhere to Be is a sensitive visual narrative about the lives of refugees living in shared accommodation in Stadt Essen/Germany.
Through this series, I aim not only to document the physical conditions of their rooms, but also to reveal the personal stories, hopes and challenges that remain hidden behind closed doors.
The photographs create a sense of closeness by focusing on the intimate realities of people whose daily lives are shaped by both uncertainty and hope. A small room becomes a fragment of a much larger story: traces of everyday life, improvised furniture, and personal belongings reflect both the weight of displacement and the resilience required to endure it.
Light, atmosphere, body language and the quiet presence of personal objects become visual clues that speak of vulnerability, strength and persistence. These moments invite viewers to engage with the emotional landscapes of those who are still searching for a place where they can live — not only physically, but with dignity and belonging.
This series is my attempt to bridge different lived realities and to create a space where empathy can arise for those who continue their search for a habitable place.
